I wouldn't have known where to find resources (no Internet back then), and I did not personally know any home schooling families in our community.

But when I see the state of the schools today, I think I'd definitely give home schooling a try if I had young kids now. Especially since there are so many good resources and good support networks for home schooling families now.

Good on you, Christy!Catherinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17054198318242454049noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13370428.post-8831617634541544112009-10-08T09:58:05.726-04:002009-10-08T09:58:05.726-04:00The goal of this certainly wasn't to put home ...The goal of this certainly wasn't to put home schooled kid on a pedestal - just this year I've run into two hs families whose kids would probably be better off outside the home...

My friend's comment caught me off-guard because I often forget we home educators are a minority and many see us as an odd little fringe group.

As for our kids being normal - perhaps in our own little way we're changing the definition of normal - dang, this is turning into another post! I'll have to explore this another day.

But Chef, I realize that was a compliment, so thanks. And after receiving the latest letter from your oldest I can assure you she is not a "normal" little one. Go home and tell your wife to relax because she's obviously doing a fabulous job.Christy Duffyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13192519166354022489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13370428.post-89811867040316991672009-10-08T09:29:40.840-04:002009-10-08T09:29:40.840-04:00I have met many more socially disadvantaged public...I have met many more socially disadvantaged public school kids than homeschooled kids. BTW, your kids are not normal and I like to think that applies to mine also. Hopefully they never will be.Chef Cookaloninoreply@blogger.com
