Patrick Swyaze was quite the leading man - think Dirty Dancing and Ghost. But when I think of him I can't help but think of him dancing with Chris Farley on Saturday Night Live:
I loved the fact that he and his first wife were still married; they were quite the anomaly in Hollywood.
Kind of weird when the folks you grew up watching start dying. Just another reminder to hold things loosely and remember where true hope lies.
When I heard the news last night about Patrick Swayze I immediately thought of my Gamma 2 floormate. (I'll protect the innocent here and keep her anonymous.) "Dirty Dancing" was on television one night-- probably the first time it was broadcast on TV-- and we commandeered the upper lounge. I don't remember what night of the week this happened or even the time of the year-- but I DO remember that there was some big sporting event on and so getting the TV lounge was a BIG deal. We had to take turns staying up there most of the day... I'd go off to class while she stayed and vice-versa. Then, when the movie came on, she and I had the whole lounge to ourselves (other than people who drifted in and out). We wore our blue jeans rolled up with our white sneakers and tied our big shirts in knots (although we didn't show our midriffs). The furniture in the lounge was chunky, heavy furniture that looked like it was made from huge shipping crates. The chair arms, in particular, made an excellent platform for our dancing. And oh! did we dance. At nearly any other college that wouldn't be of note-- but you, fellow Cougar, know that at our college that was a big deal. One of the disgruntled upperclassman boys that wanted to watch the sporting event threatened to report us. I think we responded something like, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner"... RIP Mr. Swayze.
Wow Christy,,,,I had totally forgotten about that episode for a minute but thanks for sharing.....although watching Patrick in "action" just about sent me into full blown labor....LOL
It is very sad and I feel sorry for his wife...I think I heard on the news that they had been together for 38 years, although actually married for a little less than that. They started dating when he was 19 and she was 14!
